Terry Crump Biography Terry Crump is an artist working in Houston, Texas. He received a BFA degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Born and raised in Endicott, New York, he moved with his wife and two daughters to Texas in 1979. He worked as a Graphic Designer and Supervisor in a corporate environment until 1999, when his focus changed to mural painting. He presently concentrates on fine art painting in acrylics on canvas. He is a member of several art organizations, local an national, and has participated in many art shows and competitions. His work has been published in Art Galleries and Artists of the South, and Artist’s Portfolio magazine. Description of my art. My current artistic style was born out of a creative process that found me looking for a new direction in my artistic development. It embodies, I think, an amalgamation of pure abstraction, art nouveau, and pop art. I sometimes rely on identifiable subjects for my paintings that foster an immediate emotional connection. I also rely on the emotional abstract properties of color, line and shape spread throughout the paintings that become the defining theme. My goal is to capture another level of reality and a sense of joy with a new set of connections for the viewer that will last for generations. The Process I start with rough drawing on canvas followed by color washes to fill the entire area. I paint several layers in acrylics making alterations to the composition when the art demands it. Shapes are moved and enlarged or made smaller as necessary. Colors are altered with the painting-as-a-whole in mind. Inspirations I have many art heroes. Those most influential to my current efforts are a muriad of Art Nouveau artists, Andy Worhol, the Pop king, and abstractionists like Matise, Kandinski, Mondrian and Motherwell. I think there is room to develp some unique real estate upon their shoulders.
